How-To Party Streamer Lei
Party streamers are not just for parties but handy for making leis. Here is a paper lei project perfect for May Day and it is great…
- when you have more time than money
- as a group project
- as a project for kids
- when you need specific lei colors (school colors)
- to give to the elderly when doing community service work
- when you want something to last for awhile
but will not work…
- if you have more money than time (then you may as well buy a lei at the store)
- with young kids who might mouth your lei
- in rainy weather because you’re wearing paper around your neck
You will need these materials:
- party streamer in color of your choice
- coordinating thread
- needle
Instructions:
1. Measure your thread twice the length of your lei length because you’re going to double up your thread through your needle and when tying leave at least a 2″ tail.
2. Unroll a little bit of your streamer and fold in half lengthwise. No need to cut your streamer.
3. Using a running stitch, start sewing through both layers of the streamer on the open end (not the creased side). Sew close to the edge.
4. As sew your streamer, push down in a create a circle.
5. Tie ends together and you are pau! Add a pretty ribbon if you like.
Hints: If you make a sewing mistake along the way or your paper tears, just cut your paper and continue sewing.
